About On Repute
Institutions face challenges their traditional playbooks never anticipated.
AI is reshaping how knowledge is created, shared, and evaluated, even as public trust in institutions reaches historic lows. Information now moves faster than institutions can deliberate. While most communications guidance frames these as messaging problems, they are, at their core, institutional challenges.
On Repute explores the foundations of trust: what enables institutions to endure instability, and what leads them to falter. The focus moves beyond branding and thought leadership to deeper structural questions: how institutions signal credibility, how executive judgment shapes legitimacy, what message architecture can and cannot support, and why reputation is best measured by actions rather than intentions. On Repute takes positions on these questions, from inside the practice rather than above it.
I’m Shrita Hernandez, a communications and brand strategy executive with twenty-five years of experience spanning nonprofit, government, policy, and cultural institutions. I write On Repute to explore how institutions sustain credibility, trust, and reputation as technology, information, and public expectations rapidly evolve.

On method
This publication brings practitioner experience into conversation with research. When I draw on published work, I cite it and verify it against the original source.
When I draw on my own career, examples are anonymized or drawn from more than one organization. I do not write about confidential matters.
I use AI as part of my process, along with other research and editing tools. The observations, arguments, and judgments are mine. I am accountable for every claim.
